Diaries are important and becoming a lost art for today’s American youth.
I’ll explain why diaries are important in today’s One Minute Feature.
Until the year 2000 about half of the girls in America kept diaries. It was a private way to log the events of their days, reflect on life, and contemplate their futures. There was security for a young girl knowing that her thoughts were recorded and locked up for her eyes only.
Today, only 5 percent of teen girls keep diaries. Social media has helped to replace deep thought with mere pictures and random writings. Half of high school girls now send inappropriate pictures of themselves into cyberspace, and that is more than a shame. If diaries are about living, social media is merely about performing. Let’s teach our kids to use social media as a tool for living, not as a weapon of performance.
