Appropriate shame and anger in parenting should lead to repentance in the child.
This is a delicate balance.
Anger Without Sin
Humans are given myriad different emotions wired into us by God our creator. Our kids are little humans in an emotional maturation process. Because there are many emotions to be felt and wisely expressed in their proper time and circumstance, it’s our job as parents to make sure these emotions are tempered by the wisdom and power of God.
Anger, for example, is one of the emotions that we should all feel at one time or another. Our kids should also feel it. But we should train our kids to properly harness that anger. The same is true about shame. Shame is one of the precursors to repentance. And yet when shame is quelled by the actual act of repentance, shame then becomes its own antidote.
