A GREATER COMPASSION – Consider all that God allowed His faithful children to endure in Scripture. To our finite minds, He can sometimes appear cruel–even sadistic. Yet, with every seemingly cruel account is a story of His greater redemptive purposes–the cross being the preeminent example. How often do we cheat our kids out of a greater redemptive purpose by bailing them out of the natural consequences of their rebellious or derelict actions?
Parents, if we’ll allow our kids to endure, what for the moment may hurt in these seemingly cruel and painful instances, you may very well save them permanent harm and a much greater pain. This is not to mention the character growth they’ll gain and the incredible amount of respect that you’ll earn. When you do this, you’ll actually be exercising a greater godly kind of compassion.
