Most parents have probably witnessed their children playing the blame game. This is when children do something wrong and try to put the blame on anyone or anything but themselves.
Unfortunately, this behavior is also commonly found in adults these days. Perhaps these adults were never taught the importance of taking personal responsibility as children. This is why parents must teach their kids this valuable lesson.
How Taking Personal Responsibility can Actually Lead to Positive Change
We live in a world of both tolerance and blame. Doesn’t it seem a bit oxymoronic to tolerate anything and then blame others when we don’t like what this hyper-tolerance has actually helped create?
This insanity is breeding confusion and anxiety in our kids. Blaming others, when we should be taking responsibility and addressing and fixing the problems at hand, is not building character in our kids—or us for that matter.
From race relations to disaster relief, our kids regularly see the media also blaming others before seeking wise and logical solutions.
So, for their character’s sake, let’s teach our kids to exchange blame for personal responsibility in the light of objective truth.
