HUGS NOT DRUGS – You’ve heard the saying, “hugs, not drugs.” Drugs, in this context, is most likely not referring to illegal hallucinogens, but rather to prescription drugs–meaning that if proper time and attention is given to our kids, they’ll be less likely to need medications for things like ADD, ADHD, depression, and other common labels.
As Director of Shepherds Hill Academy, experience has shown me that successful parents first model their commitment to Jesus Christ. Then, as parents administer the biblical principles of discipline, affirmation, and adequate time spent with their kids, the need for prescription drugs diminishes. In addition, their kids are also less likely to dabble in rebellious behavior and illegal drugs. The mantra “hugs, not drugs” could also be appropriately interpreted, “time, not crime.”
