Being an effective parent requires consistency and standards. Whether you seek standards for successful parenting from your peers, your parents, or from message boards on the Internet, chances are you are looking for advice somewhere.
Well, it is important to be selective in the type of counsel you allow to affect your parenting. Fortunately, while there are many voices out there telling you how to raise your kids, there is one place where you will find the best parenting answers.
Where to Find the Best Standards for Effective Parenting
While we traverse the sometimes tough but amazingly fulfilling path that is parenthood, we would all do well to establish our supreme standard for parenting. But where should parents look for this standard?
Should we look to the pop psychologists? Or maybe see what our favorite movie stars or talk show hosts are doing? Could the government have the answers?
The truth is, you won’t find the answers you need in any of those places. Believe me, through Shepherds Hill Academy, I have the privilege to watch teenagers and families become whole again day in and day out.
Any good parenting advice that I’ve seen from pop psychologists, entertainers, or state officials, I read first in the Bible. The Bible, like any text, can be read out of context or misunderstood. The more parents rely on the principles of Scripture, the closer they will be to foundational truths about parenting. Implementing and relying on these Truths should lead them down a path toward rewarding and effective parenting.
