Compassion -VS- God’s Will – If God is compassionate, shouldn’t we show compassion? Well, not always. Trace Embry explains today on License to Parent.
While in the pursuit of being a grace-filled and compassionate parent, it’s easy to exercise a compassion that is totally incompatible with the compassion of God. Remember what Jesus said to Peter when he told Jesus that he would fight to protect Him from going to the cross? Jesus told Peter, “Get behind me Satan, you’re a stumbling block to me, you don’t have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” Well how often does our well intention compassion toward our kids actually cheat them from God’s best? We aren’t willing to allow our kids to endure struggle, even the short-term struggle that would lead to spiritual health and maturity in the long run. When you think about it, unmerited compassion toward our kids might just mean unconscious rebellion toward God.
