Body language is expressed without words but can be disrespectful in how it is displayed, especially in our kids.
Being disrespected by your child will have consequences, but what would the proper discipline be? Can you tell when your child is being disrespectful using their body language?
Communicating with Body Language
There is not a better source for general parenting principles than the book of Proverbs. Verse 30 of chapter 16 is one of many examples. “He who winks his eye is plotting proversity, he who purses his lips is bent on evil.” Does this mean if Junior winks or purses his lips there is wicked intent? Of course not, it’s a general principle.
But being aware of our kids body language can communicate disrespect without words, is one way to relate this verse to our parenting experience. Many other verses in Proverbs speak to our need to exercise discipline when being disrespected. SO when our kids employ body language that sends a disrespectful message, we must employ the proper discipline.
