Against the Tide

So many parents feel that if they don’t happen to trust their kids in every area of life all of the time then they must be the worst parents on the planet and raising the worst kids on the planet. First, too many of us use the term trust in a general way. Of course, generally speaking, we all trust our kids, but when it comes to certain things we might be wise not to trust them. And that doesn’t make you or your kids part of the Manson Family for thinking this way. It makes you prudent.

To tell our kids we trust them with a particular thing or situation when we really don’t is a lie. And nothing breaches trust more than lying. And trust me. Our kids know when they are being lied to about being trusted. Remember- truth breeds trust.
