Anhedonia Not ADHD – There’s a 21st Century condition that could be infecting you child. Trace Embry explains on License to Parent.
Is your teenager easily bored? Do activities that should bring him pleasure or that used to bring him pleasure no longer delight him? Does your teen often appear to be lethargic or even depressed? Well, there’s a good chance he’s experiencing a condition known as Anhedonia. Anhedonia is not ADD, ADHD or even depression, although the symptoms are very similar. Anhedonia is a destruction of the pleasure center in the brain, which comes from unbridled multitasking on today’s popular electronic gadgets. It’s literally a twenty first century phenomenon. Unfortunately, medication, instead of moderation is too often given to our kids as a quick fix. The good news is that Anhedonia is reversible, but parents are going to have to be proactive in limiting their children’s techno usage.
