Upper Hand

I’m sure you are aware that I am a big proponent of parents having the upper hand in the home. I think it is not only biblical, but it is historical, logical, and in my experience very practical. It is also emotionally beneficial to kids when they know that parents are in tune with God and in check with them.

Kids tell me all the time that they wish their parents took more authority over them. Even they know that they have the propensity to gravitate toward sin. This is a security thing for them but it’s a hard thing for parents to come to terms with because so many struggle with their kids’ carnal desires. The key word here is “carnal.” Remember, kids have a spiritual side and they want us to help them keep in touch with it.
