It’s one thing to be proud of your kids and it’s another to bring attention to yourself because of them.
What is the difference?
Trophy Kids
You’ve heard of trophy wives, but what about trophy kids? We all want to be proud of our kids. That is a normal, healthy, and lofty desire, but there is a point where we can cross over to an unhealthy need to embellish and/or exploit the positive characteristics of our kids to satisfy some unfulfilled longing of our own.
We get on social media and inflate the accomplishments and character of our kids making them our own personal trophies. I’m not saying that social media is a place to expose our kids’ weaknesses either. Let’s be careful to keep things real. Our kids don’t need us to add another idealistic virtual reality to their already virtual world.
