The Morality of Music

Can you name three rock or rap songs in the past year that lift up purity? I’ll wait.

What about the last 30 years? Could you name just two songs, or even one, that uphold I high moral standard of saving sex for marriage?

What if we simply removed the topics of sex, drugs, and rebellion from today’s contemporary music? What would we have left? I would argue that we would see a disproportionately diminished amount of content to listen to. But at least we may have some decent songs!

My point is this: before any moral teaching of ours can impact our kids, we need to pull the plug on the immoral that they are exposed to every day. Let’s help our kids discern morally uplifting from morally debilitating music. As godly parents, this is our responsibility.
