TEEN SUICIDE AND CHARACTER – Though America once led the world in virtually every category of life, she now leads the world in teen suicide. And the number one reason teens give for attempting it? Well, in what used to be the world’s richest nation, American teens claim they have no hope!
Romans 5: 3-4 says that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance character, and character hope. Turning that verse around we might conclude that today’s kids have no hope, because they have no character; no character, because they have no perseverance; and perseverance has never been developed, because too often, we parents have rescued our kids from the natural struggles (or sufferings) common to life. Perhaps we should do a better job of allowing our kids to endure more of the natural consequences of their mistakes.
