Making the “un-fun” jobs fun!
It’s really just a matter of perspective.
Make Them
On a road trip with my grandkids recently we stopped for gas and I made my 6-year-old grandson exit the motor home with me to clean bugs off the windshield and headlights. Though initially, he was reluctant to do so, he soon discovered the joy in the job stating, “This is fun Grandpa! This is really fun!” That was when my 7-year-old granddaughter came out to join in on the fun. I felt like Tom Sawyer recruiting friends to whitewash my fence!
The moral of the story is that sometimes kids have to be made to do things in order for them to discover certain satisfactions in life. We too often believe that kids have to be entertained to be amused, but feeling significant and needed is amusing to anyone.
