We all want to be a good example to our kids.
What if we did this with our wallets?
Kids of Substance
One good way to impart character and wisdom to our kids is to model character and wisdom before them. One sure way to model these virtues is to live within our means. This means buying only what we can afford and not pretending to be somebody we are not.
When our kids see us attempting to keep up with the Joneses’ it breeds into them a sense of disingenuousness and materialism that turns life’s priorities upside down. They become people of style before substance. Is that the kind of kids that we want to take care of us when we are in our retirement years? Proverbs 12:9 says, “Better to be a nobody and have a servant than to pretend to be a somebody and have no food.”
