When your child is bored let him work with his hands. And feet. And back.
Do you feel as though you are always under the threat of your child being bored?
Allowing Our Kids to Be Bored
At an age where there are more things for kids to do than at any other time in history, how could anyone ever be bored?
The problem isn’t that there is nothing to do. The problem is that there is too much to do. It’s caused an insatiable desire for amusement in our kids called anhedonia.
But we should not fight this by providing Junior with another unique toy or digital device to satiate his boredom. That’s compounding the problem. Instead, put him to work using his hands, feet, and back. Problem-solving tasks are best.
You’ll get some pushback at first but, in time, the things that delight him will do so once again.
