Accountability and the Shorter Leash – What happens when we keep our faith separated from the other areas of our lives? Trace Embry has the answer, today on License to Parent.
Today’s kids have an uncanny way of compartmentalizing their faith, which results in compromising their faith. That’s due in large part to the post-modern influence of our day. Our kids are free to create their own reality and thereby their own morality, which can change depending on the setting. They can raise their hands in worship Sunday morning, while thinking nothing of fornicating in the church parking lot Sunday night. Because our teens live in a world with unparalleled temptations, as parents we should strongly consider keeping the leash shorter until our kids have shown they won’t hang themselves with a longer one. This may mean a reasonable curfew, time limits on video games, or understanding TV and internet use as a privilege rather than a right.
