When your kids say, “you don’t trust me!” How do you respond?
Consider this.
You Don’t Trust Me
We have all had to tell our kids “no” because they wanted to go somewhere or do something that we considered dangerous or unwise. That is when we often hear, “What, don’t you trust me?” Here is where many parents discredit themselves by saying, “No, of course, I trust you! But-” However, this is just a roundabout way of saying, “I don’t totally trust you.”
It is okay to tell your kids that you do not trust them in specific situations if it is really true. Our kids have got to know that not trusting them doesn’t mean that we don’t love them. Even Jesus didn’t trust anyone and he loves everyone! So tell it like it is. You will save excuses, credibility, and respect all at the same time.
