How do you balance wise parenting in a crazy world? How do we thoughtfully and carefully take into account the situations and environments our kids find themselves in today?
Discipline is tough. Balancing wise discipline today is even tougher. How do we offer wisdom and disciple to our children at the same time? How do we instill godly principles in today’s culture?
Exercising WisDipline in Parenting
It’s no secret that I’m big on high expectations for our kids. But, at the same time, we have to realize the world they live in—a world that expects little more than youthful folly. Especially for Christian parents, it’s easy to freak out when one of our kids is caught viewing or engaging in something that we would have been shamed and absolutely crucified for. I’m not saying that appropriate consequences aren’t in order. All I’m saying is that our over-emotional reaction to our kids’ moral faux pas is more likely to exacerbate the situation than if we calmly exercised the appropriate discipline and even empathized with our kids’ plight to navigate a culture determined to pollute their hearts and minds.
