Two Extremes
Proverbs 29 offers three verses that when tied together are a child-rearing trifecta. Verse 21 doesn’t specifically mention one’s own son, yet it still applies when it says, “If a man pampers his servant from youth he will bring grief in the end.” We are also told in verse 15, “The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself disgraces his mother.” Lastly, verse 17 says, “Discipline your son and he will bring peace and delight to your soul.”
We should not neglect nor pamper our children, but instead find the balance between the two. These two extremes occur way too often these days. What doesn’t occur often enough is the kind of love and discipline that can bring peace and delight to your home today.
