THINK THE TRUTH, NOT THE BEST – John 8:32 says, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Today on License to Parent, Trace Embry explains that knowing the truth also makes us better parents.
You’ve probably heard some well-meaning people say, “We should always think the best of everyone.” It may have been your own mother – perhaps your pastor. Well, as much as we’d like to think the best of everyone, nowadays, that may be a bit naïve – especially when it comes to how we look at our own kids. I mean, let’s be real: if your child’s history is evidence that things aren’t as they should be, don’t overlook the obvious. God puts a high premium on truth, so shouldn’t we be looking for and thinking the truth about everyone – especially our kids? Then, as Jesus proclaimed, we can make a right judgment. Until we know and accept the absolute truth about our kids, we’ll never be able to pour into them the right amount of discipline or the right amount of grace.
