SUMMER JOBS – Whatever happened to teens acquiring summer jobs? Largely because, of today’s infinite access to mind-numbing pleasurable activities, summer jobs aren’t the priority they once were for teens. But, summer jobs can offer teens practical life skills, significance, and self worth–not to mention income–and limit the pitfalls of idleness. The life experience, alone, gained just from applying for a job is worth a ton. Here, kids can learn the importance of dressing for success, people skills, manners, and being punctual.
Unless your teen is committed to something more important, parents shouldn’t feel guilty for requiring that their teen seek summer employment. If no one else is hiring, then, parents, you do the hiring. Houses need painting; fences need mending; and, lawns need manicured–just to name a few things; because, idle hands truly are the devil’s workshop!
