I’ve seen many cultural changes over the past decade or so that have made how we do parenting look vastly different from the way I was raised. The biggest change took place when the internet exploded on the scene at about the same time political correctness ran amok. This resulted in a combination of an over-exposed and hyper-sexualized youth culture and a generation of parents who no longer felt they had the freedom to exercise proper biblical discipline on behalf of their children. Add to this the busyness of an overly-committed pursuit of the American dream, parents now face a generation of young people who too often feel the need to cut themselves simply to feel justified.
