What does that mean for your prayer life?

So many parents have prayed for their rebellious children- sometimes for years on end. In some cases, they have petitioned the Lord for over half a century before their child came to Christ. But why are some parents required to petition God for a lifetime before these prayers get answered? Only God knows, of course, but could it be that Psalm 66:18 should at least be considered? It says, “If I had cherished sin in my heart the Lord would not have listened.”

As we struggle through prayers of petition for rebellious children self-examination may be in order. What a shame it would be if our child’s rebellion was linked in part to sin harbored in our own hearts.
