We all know that praising our kids is important.
But is it possible to praise your kids too much?
We have all heard about the virtues of encouragement, high praise, and positive affirmations for our kids. Unfortunately, too many parents have affirmed, praised, and encouraged mediocrity in their kids and sometimes even slothfulness all for the sake of their child’s self-esteem.
However, Jesus was a realist and used rebuke as much as praise. Read Luke 17 to get some better insights on all of this. Particularly verses 7-10 where Jesus told his disciples, who were kind of like his kids, that they shouldn’t need praise just for doing what is expected. If we routinely praise our kids just for showing up then showing up is about all they will ever accomplish.
