CALLING THE POLICE When I was a kid, unless someone was shot; raped; or robbed, we never called the police to our home. Today, I often hear of parents who call the police on their own children; because the child is raging, threatening to run away, or even refusing to do homework. As the ages get younger and younger for these things, this is sending kids a terrible message. But, too often, parents believe that physical intervention in order to protect their kids, themselves, or their homes, will result in Junior being snatched by Child Protective Services.
Though this usually isn’t the case, parents would still do well to handle things in-house. Unless no option truly exists, kids need the security of knowing that their parents are in control and don’t need the help of police to do what God has ordained parents, families, or the body of Christ, to handle privately. It’s a matter of respect for parents, which breeds security in the child.
