Do Kids Actually Want Parental Authority Figures [One Minute Feature]

While it may be fun to daydream about a world where no one can tell us what to do, let’s consider a major downside of this scenario. Sure, we would have unchecked freedom, but what would stop that from turning into complete chaos?

Do Kids Actually Want Parental Authority Figures [One Minute Feature]

This is why children need their moms and dads to act as parental authority figures. Kids may dream of a world without rules, but they actually need the guidance and security of a loving source of authority.

Why Kids Need and Desire Parental Authority Figures

You may already know that I believe that parents should hold on to their authority in the home. I feel this position is backed by Scripture, history, and logic, not to mention how practical applying this principle has been in my own experience. Children can benefit emotionally when they are aware that their parents are in step with the Lord and will act as secure authority figures. Students often let me know that they wish their parents were better authority figures in their lives.

These kids understand that they tend to lean toward sinful choices and desires, and they want the security of a moral parental authority. This can be a difficult thing for some parents to consider, especially if they are overwhelmed by the sinful propensity of their children. But remember, while the sinful desires of the flesh may be causing havoc for your children, your kids are more than flesh and bones. They also have a spirit, and deep down, they want their parents to guide them and help them develop this spiritual side.
