To buy or not to buy you teen’s first car?
There’s no single Bible verse to support what I’m about to say. However, with a knowledge of scripture as a whole, I think I can make my case.
Why Not Purchase a Car for Your Teen
In general, I believe it is a terrible mistake (regardless of your income) to purchase Junior’s first car, insure it, keep it maintained, and fill it with gas. Too many parents are doing this.
Unless your child has a history of routinely performing incredibly responsible acts beyond his years, has a continually blessed and grateful attitude, and shows zero inclination toward entitlement I would make him save, for years if necessary, to purchase his own first car. Then, he should be made to insure it, keep it maintained, fuel it up, all with money he’s earned by the sweat of his brow. In the long run, everyone wins.
