Lying is the first step toward delusion, especially as people begin to believe their own lies. Delusion is living in your own reality. Regardless of how innocent your motives might be, delusion is a mental illness. Unfortunately, we’re seeing a lot of it today.

So if there’s a virtual unpardonable sin in your home, it should be the sin of lying. Lying breaks down our ability to effectively communicate. In fact, God thought it important enough to make truth-telling one of the 10 commandments. From the earliest age, your child should know that lying will return them the severest of consequences every time. Address it and deal with it swiftly, decisively, and consistently when it’s detected.
