Likes

A moral character begins with being genuine. There is nothing more attractive in a person than when they are genuine, and not trying to scab onto the trendy opinions or bravado of other people or groups. Social media has given our kids a world of other people who can sell them the opinions and values of people we wouldn’t let into our houses.

This is when our kids can start to begin to display disingenuousness. They may even take on the persona of someone they think is cool or trendy. Why? To get the likes. They think that “likes” means “cool,” but it does not. We need to tell our kids why. Parents, talk to your kids about the cool factor of being your own person with your own opinions and personality because being a mindless lemming is definitely not “cool.”
