What motivates your approach to discipline in public?
The main thing to remember- forget yourself.
Forget Self
There seems to be an epidemic of parents these days who can’t bring themselves to exercise the appropriate discipline on behalf of their children for fear of being disliked or rejected. Disliked or rejected not just by their children, but by other parents of other kids.
Hebrews 12 is clear that the pain and discomfort of discipline are necessary for good parenting. Do you know what else is painful? Heart surgery, chemotherapy, and root canals. Yet any good parent understands the necessity of going through the pain involved in these activities for the sake of the greater good. Discipline is the same way. Truthfully, not properly disciplining our children is too often an exercise in compassion for ourselves and not for our kids.
