Should you or should you not buy your teens’ first car?
Consider this before you do.
First Car
There is no single bible verse to support what I am about to say. However, with the knowledge of scripture as a whole, I think I can make my case. In general, I think it is a terrible mistake, regardless of your income, to purchase your child’s first car, insure it, keep it maintained and fill it with gas as too many parents do.
Unless your child has a history of routinely performing incredible responsible acts beyond their years, is blessed with a continual attitude of gratitude, and shows zero inclination toward entitlement, I would make them save for years, if necessary, to purchase their own car. Then they should be made to insure it and keep it maintained and fueled all with money they have earned with the sweat of their brow. In the long run, everyone wins.
