CHANGING THE DIAL (2) – Hi, I’m Trace Embry. I often talk about the importance of Christian parents occasionally changing the dial from their favorite secular radio stations to listen to some good Bible teaching and worship music. It’s good for the soul and a biblical worldview. By the same token, however, many devoted Christian parents might do well to occasionally do just the opposite!
That’s right, it can be discouraging to our kids to think that they’re being isolated from the world to the point of being cheated out of the GOOD things our culture has to offer when parents never allow their kids to see and hear what’s actually out there. The key is balance and discernment. Certainly, we don’t want our kids to be exposed to X rated music or talk; but, there is some mainstream stuff that, just a taste once in a while, will keep them in touch with the world without giving them an appetite for it.
