Boundaries are intended to protect, not just restrict.
But what is really surprising is that your teen wants them!
Boundaries
Wise parents know that teens need boundaries. What many parents don’t know is that teens actually want them. You may be thinking, “Not my teen!” To make sense of this we first have to understand that, Like Saint Paul in Romans 7 adults and teens alike are constantly engaging in a spirit vs flesh war. No, our flesh does not want boundaries, but our flesh isn’t the sum total of who we are! Our spiritual side craves boundaries and our teens are no different.
When appropriate boundaries aren’t given and enforced it is analogous to driving cross country with no traffic lights or speed limits. All security goes away. When security goes away for a teen so does their rational thinking in order to find it.
