Affirmation 2 – According to parenting expert Mary Poppins, “A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down.” And parenting expert Trace Embry has similar advice for us, today … on License to Parent.
With all the different vehicles for promoting sin and vice these days, our world seems to trip up our kids at every turn. Consequently, even the so-called “good kids” can often find themselves in compromising situations that parents still must address. As a result, it’s easy for parents to then appear suspicious or critical. This is why today’s parents must be intentional about affirming their children regularly–especially their teens. If they’ve been faithful with their household chores, then be just as faithful to tell them how grateful you are and how valuable they are to your family. When they’ve done nothing at all but occupy the seat next to you, then consider randomly telling them how glad you are to be their parent. This will go far to help them accept your discipline when the world trips them up.
