As a parent in the digital age, it is important that you not overlook the disrespect your teen can communicate nonverbally through his or her body language.
In today’s post, we highlight why it is important to address the body language of your teenager.
There’s no better source for general parenting principles than the book of Proverbs. Verse 30 of chapter 16 is just one of many examples: “He who winks his eye is plotting perversity: he who purses his lips is bent on evil.” Does this mean each time Junior winks or purses his lips there’s wicked intent? Of course not. It’s a general principle.
Being aware that our kids’ body language can communicate disrespect without words is one way to relate this verse to our parenting experience. Many other verses in Proverbs speak to our need to exercise discipline when being disrespected. So, when our kids employ body language that sends a disrespectful message, we must employ the proper discipline.
