When the airplane cabin loses pressure, parents are to take the oxygen mask first. That applies to other areas too. Here’s how the same principle applies to parenting:
“Me First!” sure sounds selfish, doesn’t it? But there are times in our parenting where “me first” is the wise option.
Fill Your Cup, Parents!
As good parents, it’s easy to always put our kid’s needs before our own. But realize that putting ourselves before our kids in some cases is actually the wisest and most unselfish thing we can do.
Take for example our responsibility to impart godly knowledge and wisdom to our kids. If we don’t first spend time alone with God ourselves, we’ll have less to offer our kids by way of godly insights.
Prioritizing Parenting & Time with God
So when Junior knocks on your door with a “non-emergency,” don’t feel guilty telling him you can’t respond to him until you’re finished with the Lord. This act alone will be a spiritual impartation to your child that will reap rewards for years to come.
