Many kids today feel entitled to their parent’s money. One reason for this is because… many parents make the mistake of positioning themself to freely give their kids money without requiring anything in return.
But is this a bad thing? Today, I tackle this issue.
Proverbs 17:16 says: “Of what use is money in the hands of a fool, since he has no desire to get wisdom?” Since folly is at the heart of many kids, it’s our job to impart wisdom while doing our best to squelch folly in them.
I don’t like using the phrase: “When I was a kid.” But, when I was a kid, my parents doled out money to us sparingly. We had to do something beyond the call of duty—and I’m not referring to the video game—before our parents would dole out a dollar just for asking. We didn’t expect them to be our personal ATMs, especially if we were planning some frivolous purchase.
Carte blanche money from parents to kids is a recipe for their entitlement and foolishness.
