Bad behavior results in punishment.
But some reflection in the word is helpful too.
The Redemption of God’s Word
At Shepherd’s Hill Academy, disciplinary measures are sometimes given to students as consequences for bad behavior. And like any wise parent, we never use the Bible as part of any direct discipline.
Yet we do offer students the option of writing verses pertinent to their crimes in lieu of what their consequence may have otherwise been.
For instance, let’s say that a student’s consequence for lying was that he lost his night out eating pizza with the guys. His option to write bible verses or paraphrasing a chapter that’s pertinent to lying instead of missing pizza night does two things.
First, it teaches Junior scriptural wisdom. But two, Scripture actually becomes his redeemer of sorts rather than the punishment itself.
