Beyond basic parenting activities like changing diapers, putting dinner on the table, and getting the kids to soccer practice, there is the realm of parenting which involves preparing kids for the future.
This side of parenting involves teaching, training, and setting standards for proper behavior. Parents must not neglect this responsibility, and they must maintain high standards for morality and speech regardless of societal trends.
How Low Expectations for Morality and Speech Can Lead to Failure
By now you have probably noticed that it seems like many standards are being lowered in our country today. Normal expectations for discourse and morality are set lower and lower all the time. But this doesn’t mean that parents should following societal trends when raising kids today. Instructing children about proper behavior, social courtesy, scriptural truths, and, to some extend, correct speech, will help build their character and lead to good things in the future.
Letting your kids by with bad ethics, weak morality, poor behavior, and corrupt or explicit speech is allowing them start down a path toward failure in the future. Proverbs 22:11 shares the following insight: “One who loves a pure heart and who speaks with grace will have the king for a friend.” So consider this: Which friendship has a better chance of leading to a fulfilling, godly, and successful life? Friendship with a Youtube personality, popstar, or hip-hop artist? Or friendship with a king.
