Postmodernism is a worldview that questions many of the truths that were considered absolute by people in the past. Unfortunately, this way of thinking can lead people away from objective moral standards and towards a more subjective view of morality.
When we look at the moral values that our culture has today, the influence of postmodernism is undeniable. Parents must be prepared and equipped to raise their kids in a postmodern society.
How the Influence of Postmodernism May Be Dictating the Morality of Our Kids
Postmodernism has great influence on life today, and parents must be prepared to raise their kids in a world that is saturated by it. Even if you do not know the exact meaning of the word, postmodernism is probably influencing the thoughts and actions of your children as well as your actions and attitudes as a parent.
The Judeo-Christian worldview that carried much influence before the 1960s has since been overtaken in prevalence by postmodernism. Fueled by the media, our society has surrendered to this way of thinking.
Does it seem like your kids hold certain standards for morality in a lower regard than you do? The reason is likely related to the fact that our society has drifted away from accepting some of the moral truths that were held in high regard by previous generations. So how does a parent successfully raise kids in a postmodern context?
- Saturate your life with Scripture.
- Read and discuss the Bible with your children.
- Be in prayer and invite God to show you the right paths for your family.
This is the simplest and best advice I can give to parents.
