Many parents encourage their kids to learn, do well in school, and be successful. But do too many parents forget about emphasising the importance of being wise?
Our kids must understand that no matter how smart they are, and no matter how knowledgeable they become, the true key to success in this life is wisdom and moral guidance.
Why Even the Smartest Kids Must Learn the Importance of Being Wise
As parents, we must not be tricked into believing that our child’s ability to assemble a computer or bring home all A’s means that he or she is on the fast track to a successful life.
The most intelligent teenagers can still have trouble processing the consequences of their actions. They might be smart, but having smarts and knowledge is not the same as being wise. Searching for the right things online can make the most foolish person have knowledge on a subject, but it’s the way that we apply knowledge and intellect that shows how wise we are.
Intellect and absorbing information can exist outside of morality, but wisdom hinges on morality. Dictators, serial killers, and scam artists often possess great intellect and knowledge; what they lack is wisdom.
Spend some time studying the book of Proverbs with your children and put a special emphasis on the importance of being wise.
