It is pretty much impossible to raise children without setting up some kind of family standards. These standards may be in the form of rules or guidelines that teach kids what is appropriate and what isn’t in our culture or context.
But these family standards can be much more than a guide of what is appropriate and what isn’t—after all, knowing right from wrong is different than choosing right over wrong. Parents must equip their kids with lasting standards that will help them make good moral choices throughout life.
Why Godly Family Standards are More Valuable than the Standards of a Sinful Culture
What is the driving source defining your family standards relating to morality, relationships, family, and education? If parents want to raise their children successfully, they should consider the importance of these standards and their sources.
It is a shame that many parents do not see the value in implementing family standards that go above and beyond what our culture normally demands. As a result, these families tend to fall into the same pitfalls as many other families in our willfully sinful culture.
If we neglect putting an extra emphasis on moral standards, the burdens of our society like substance abuse, teen pregnancy, domestic violence, sexually transmitted infections, broken marriages, and abortion can find their way into our families.
Thankfully, we can find necessary moral standards in Scripture—standards that often are nowhere to be seen in our culture or government. When we commit our families to biblical standards, we help protect ourselves and our kids from the vices that are so common in a society that does not know God.
