Are you sometimes surprised by the behavior of your children? Do they often behave in a way that seems contrary to the way you are raising them?
Well, perhaps it is time for you to consider how behaviors are influenced by worldviews. Regardless of your values, what worldviews do you allow your kids to access via various forms of entertainment or media? Could this explain some of these bad behaviors?
Why It Is Important to Understand How Behaviors Are Influenced by Worldviews and the Media
Do you ever think about how the behaviors of your kids are influenced by their worldviews? A connection between behavior and worldview has come up time and time again as I’ve worked with struggling teens and their families over the years. In America today, there is one worldview that seems to shape the thinking of many Christian and non-Christian people alike. This worldview is postmodernism.
This way of thinking often supposes subjective standards for morality and dismisses or ignores ultimate, objective truth. Our culture today, frequently through the influence of the media, often supposes that all truths are equally good and true. Despite this, parents need to stand firm in their belief in objective truth. A good way to pass this on to our kids is by limiting the amount of entertainment and media we allow our kids to consume. In all this, parents need to make sure that they maintain a serious attitude toward their beliefs.
