Why Parents Should Show Their Kids Work can be Amusing [One Minute Feature]

These days, it seems like we believe digital media is one of the only things that can truly amuse us. If an activity doesn’t take place on a digital screen, then it doesn’t seem as interesting or amusing.

Why Parents Should Show Their Kids Work can be Amusing [One Minute Feature]

But parents and children must realize that this isn’t true! In fact, even work can be amusing. There are feelings of satisfaction and amusement to be found in all kinds of activities, not just the digital ones.

1 Example of How Work can be Amusing for Kids

On a road-trip with my grandkids recently, we stopped for gas, and I made my 6-year-old grandson exit the motorhome with me to clean bugs off the windshield and headlights. Though initially, he was reluctant to do so, he soon discovered the joy in the job, stating: “This is fun Grandpa—this is really fun.” That is when my 7-year-old granddaughter came out to join in the fun. I felt like Tom Sawyer.

The moral of the story is that sometimes kids have to be made to do things in order for them to discover certain satisfactions in life. We too often think kids have to be entertained to be amused. But feeling significant and needed is amusing to everyone.
