Your coworker accuses you of wrongdoing, and your boss punishes you without hearing your side of the story. Well, that’s not fair! Now, replace you and your coworker with your kids. I’m sure you see where I’m going with this.

It’s not fair to react to a situation while only hearing one side of the story. Fairness is everything to our children, and it’s imperative that we not only treat them fairly but to also teach them how to be fair by way of demonstration.
Demonstrating Fairness to Our Children
How often have we reacted to one child’s account of a situation without first hearing the tale from the other children involved? Proverbs 18: 17 says, “The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him.” This scenario doesn’t just play out with our kids. It plays out in our other personal relationships as well.
Our kids take notice of how fair we are with not only them but other people too. Fairness means everything to kids, and, as it pertains to His children, it means something to God as well. One sure way to earn our kids’ trust is to hear all sides of a story before reacting or coming to judgment.
