Troubled teens are glad to know that their parents have something to learn too.
For years I’ve been meeting with each new student the day they arrive at Shepherd’s Hill Academy.
A Lesson for the Parents
First, I tell them I love them. I tell them nobody will ever lie to them at Shepherd’s Hill Academy. Then I assure them that Shepherd’s Hill is a safe place, even a fun place, free of cliques and bullying.
But nothing gets their attention more than when I tell them we will also be working to help their parents be more effective parents. That’s when they pick their heads up and look at me with a glimmer of hope in their eyes. It’s remarkable.
By graduation day, do you know what most kids say they really want out of their homes? They want security that comes from wise boundaries that are consistently enforced by an emotionally stable and spiritually mature mother and father.
