THE COMMON NEED FOR STRUCTURE – Here’s Trace Embry, Executive Director of Shepherd’s Hill Academy, with today’s License to Parent.
I’ve seen troubled teenagers from all across the nation and around the world be transformed into fine, upstanding contributors to society. Some have even gone into ministry. But what has been the turning point in their lives? Well, we could point to the heart change that comes from accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, but there is also the influence of male leadership and affirmation, especially in the lives of boys. What we have found is that in spite of the fact that young men are seeking independence, they are also still looking for the security of structure, legitimate older male authority, and a sense of belonging and significance. So, Dads – take note. Regardless of your son’s age, he still needs your approval, guidance, love, and accountability.
Sometimes training our children means first re-training ourselves.
