It seems that everyone is connected through some form of social media. With the plethora of options now available, it seems that social media is here to stay.

Social Media on the Rise and Safe Practices [One Minute Feature]

With all these ways to connect, how can you be sure who your child is talking to? What steps can you, as a parent, take to protect your children from the risks of social media use?

Ways to Implement Safe Practices for Your Kids on Social Media

We are now way beyond just MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. There seems to be more ways to communicate with friends and strangers on social media than we have time to keep up with. Instagram, Snapchat, WeChat, and Vine are just a few more concerns that parents need to be aware of.

The wise parent prohibits any new social media vehicle until appropriate adult understanding and oversight are instituted. If you allow Junior to have a Facebook profile, for example, always demand that he friend you and give you his password. After that, talk about these sights with your kids so that everyone knows where the boundaries are and how best to navigate them with minimal risk.

"When I met the kids (at SHA), and saw the glow of transformation on their faces, it spoke to me that Shepherd's Hill Academy was more than 'Just what the doctor ordered.' It is a holistic, spiritual and therapeutic approach to healing that provides an atmosphere for learning and a proving ground for the uncompromising time-tested truths of scripture." - John Rosemond, American Columnist
